How do I change starter on 94 Ford Explorer?

I need to change my starter on my 94 Ford Explorer. Never did this before, could someone explain the procedure to me? Any special tools needed? Do I have to jack up the motor? Thanks.

remove battery cable... crawl under it right side remover wire if you can then the two bolts... not hard just dont let it fall and hit you in the face... dont need anything special and you shouldnt have to jack up anything ...but the truck if you want to

Does the gear linkage in a car need to be touched to get to the starter motor?

Yesterday I took my '56 reg Vauxhall Corsa (new model) to the garage to have a recall on the starter motor tended to. I collected the car and was told it needed a new motor, they'd order the part and book me in the following week. Driving out the garage it was crawling traffic so was in 1st gear for a good mile or two. I then got out of the city (Wakefield) where gear changing was a must. Unfortunately, changing gears felt a tad like stirring a bowl of porridge. When in gear, you could move the gear lever side to side a good 2 to 3 inches as if it was in neutral. I was a bit cautious changing from 2nd to 3rd as it felt like it was going into 1st. Does anyone know if the gear linkage system would need to be touched to get to the starter motor?? The gear stick was fine before I took it in, quick cut gear changes no faffing. Now it feels like I'm driving a car with a gearbox out of a 1970's coach! Help please. P.S. I will be contacing the garage but just wanted clarification beforehand.

no need to touch any thing in the linkage , you should be carefull of them now they may be messing with your auto

Don't know the Corsa at all but it is certainly possible for a car to need a linkage dismantled to get access to a starter motor.

There's bound to be a forum around for Corsa owners you could join, where they would know the layout.
No they don't need to touch the linkage to remove or test the starter. Its possible that when it was on the ramps that they may have accidentally moved the roads when working.
Take it back, fast. They don't need to go near the gear linkage.
I'm pretty sure that the starter motor on a Corsa is well clear of the gear linkage, both being on different sides of the engine.

It's not impossible though that its been damaged/disturbed whilst, or if, the car was on a ramp/jack. Proving it would be a different mater. Good luck.

    Where is the starter motor On a 91 4runner 3.0 V6?
Same place it is on any car, bolted to the engine where it engages the flywheel. Just follow the red battery cable, the other end of it is the starter.

Starter motor problem on a vauxhall brava diesel?

ok please only answers from people who have relevant knowledge and are here to offer help not say things like take it to a garage

ok i have a 1996 vauxhall brava, 2.5 non turbo

4 months ago i replaced the key start with a toggle switch and a push button, for reasons of price rather than asthetics.

monday morning i went to start it after spending all weekend working on it and it would not start, seemed like a problem with the diesel pump.

anyway after alot of cranking the starter began to play up, its either clicks or whirrs and when engaging sometimes made a nasty crunch,

the vehicle had another big truck supplying the power through jump leads.

i have once stripped and rebuilt a starter purely to change the two terminals, but this was on a vehicle that was purely clicking and not whirring,

    any ideas??
Starter motor problem on a vauxhall brava diesel?
It sounds like you may have a couple of problems.

The big truck you where jumping it with was it 24Volt? If so you may have burnt the starter motor out and all the cranking won't have done it much good either.

Start by fully charging the brava battery and try again. Make sure that the battery leads are ok ie no loose connection as this can make starters just click. If no change replace the starter then you will be able to look into the real problem.

What work had you done to it over the weekend?
Starter motor problem on a vauxhall brava diesel?
Sounds like the starter and/or bendix gear (crunching noise) is cream crackered.
sounds like the solenoid not working properly give it a belt with a hammer and see if it will work.

otherwise take your starter off and take it to an auto electrician who will test it for you.
the starter pinion gear is only spinning on the shaft and not throwing into drive check the solenoid and electrical connections particulaly the earth connection
1st lose jump wires 2nd Bendix stater motor 3rd if engine make rounds fast but engine doest start see any smoke from exhaust pipe if no smoke it mean diesel pump faulty there is smoke it mean heater problem .

Changed the starter and silenoid would engage but still wont start?

he removed the starter and bench test it no rotation from starter motor .replaced with life time warranty starter and bench tested new starter before vinstalling once installed got short movement of engine but the engine would not turn more than 1/4 to 1/2 turn possible obstruction or interferrence keeping engine from completely turning over. help1995 ford wind star

All Spark Plugs Out, with a Ratchet %26amp; Socket can you turn the Engine by Hand? NO..........%26quot;Rebuild Engine!%26quot;; YES, Is your Battery Strong Enough? Cables Good, Clean %26amp; Secure? With the New Starter in can you jump start the Car?
Changed the starter and silenoid would engage but still wont start?
Could be hydrolocked or have a broken valve or some other obstruction in a cylinder. Put a 1/2 inch drive on the crank pully and spin it over by hand. if it goes clunk and stops dead the problem is internal. Pull the spark plugs and try to crank it. if water sprays out clean the plugs and reinstall, otherwise look in each cylinder with a flashlight. You may need some serious engine work either way.
check tha battery cables incase they are decroded.....
maybe the battery isnt strong enough to turn the engine over. check to make sure all connections are clean and tight.

What is the best way to change a starter in a 1989 wellcraft v20 steplift with a 5 liter motor?

This is a tough-one. I've had some success with a 3/8 Snap-on butterfly impact. It's just short enough to get on the bolt. I use a 6 point ball impact socket. If you can't get at it, work from the front of the engine. You might have to unbolt the front engine mounts, and loosen but not remove the back mounts. Good luck!

Not sure on this specific boat, but most I/Os are pretty tough, usually requires a couple of extensions, a u joint socket, a mirror and a lot of cuss words. Sometimes removing an exhaust manifold can help. I have had to remove belt driven accessories in order to get the starter out from under the engine.Sometimes, if there is a lot of corrosion, the engine must be removed in order to get the starter off. Be sure to disconnect the battery first.

Do i have to lift my motor a bit in my 1988 toyota 4runner to get the starter out?

i already tried to change my starter and i couldt get it out. too much stuff in the way. is there an easier way for em to do this?|||No, I had an 88 toyota 4x4 truck and replaced the starter fairly easily but I reached it thru the wheel well, it had to come foward and up thru the top it was a liitle aggravating but not bad nothing was removed or lifted. the truck should be the same as the 4runner.|||Are you absolutely sure the starter is the problem?? NEVER replace any part till you know the problem. If your truck don%26#039;t start I would bet it%26#039;s not the starter. What is the problem ? maybe you can save a lot of effort and $$$
