Right, changed the starter motor on my 92 Renault clio 1.4 the other day, now when I turn the key to start her up I get a nasty grinding sound while the starter motor is running.
Engine still fires up fine, just worried about the nasty sound it now makes. Any ideas?|||Was it the proper starter you installed? Sounds like the teeth don%26#039;t match, this%26#039;ll damage the ring gear if you don%26#039;t sort it pdq.|||Hi
You have mis-matched teeth from the sounds of it!! You need to remove the starter and compare it to the old one.
Just coz its from the same year of car doesn%26#039;t mean its an exact replacement!

Geordie|||This indicates that the starter teeth,and the teeth on the flywheel are not in line.If you keep using it like this you may damage the flywheel!Take it out,and check it very carefully against the original to see what the problem is?Hope this helps,|||check if the starter pinion is still spinning when the engine has started,try lubricating the pinion on the shaft,check the teeth on the pinion are not worn and that it returns easily from the engaged position
