Has anyone any tips on fitting a starter motor to a Renault Extra 1.9 Diesel non turbo - same as a Clio?

My old Renault van has a burnt out starter motor. Looking down the back of the engine I can hardly see the thing - any tips on how to change it will be appreciated.|||if you dont have a workshop manual of your own they can mostly be lent for nothing from your local library or you can copy the revelent pages for a matter of pence. it saves having to buy a new manual for every car you work on.|||extremely diff. you need to get your car jaked up as far of the ground as you can. if you have an actuall lift it would be best. when i did mine it took forever because my hands were to big and i only had bery little room. you have to go thru the bottom besides that you got three bolts to loosen take it out. before you replace it take it appart. pull the starter armiture out and check the brusthes. chances are your brushes are really low and theirs to much crud in their for a magnetic force to build up strong enough. brushes only cost about 4 euros so it is very much less exspensive.

good luck
