hi people i have a ford escort 1998 zetec and been having trouble with it as it wont start up i think theres an electrical fault somewhere,my alternator was on its way out so replaced it along with a new battery but went to start the car and it was dead i have dash lights indicators all work etc but thats it,when i turn the key i dont hear the fuel pump kick in as you normally do and the small red light by the clock isnt displaying anything at all as if its simply not working,ive tried changing the fuse box,fuses,relays also changed the starter motor but nothing,before i changed the alternator and battery the car started up fine,would it be that i left the car with no battery on it all night as i took the old one off and didnt put the new one on the next day turned the key and ive ended up with this the battery was tested its fine,obviously i have a fault somewhere but all i did was change the alternator and battery all the connections have been checked everything seems fine help my email is wayne14280@email2me.net i would be greatful if anyone could email me with some help????

If your sure your battery and cables are good, you may have burned out a %26quot;fusible link%26quot; while installing the new battery and alternator. A fusible link is a fuse integrated into one or more of the wires leading from the battery to the fusebox etc. Look up your vehicle parts info and search for fusible link and also check a repair manual.

I'm a Little confused, does the battery go day after the car sits overnight or it won't crank over at all?
If the battery goes dead after it sits you need to check for a short in the system if it won't crank at all, check the wires on the starter to make sure you have them all on the right terminals. Does the security light flash? If so you activated the anti-theft which cuts power to the fuel pump and computer, and some cases will also cut power to the starter
